David Skinner Trio

This is the classic piano trio format, with double bass and drums. I haven't done so much of this in recent years, but I now have several jobs planned for 2012. This lineup plays hard-swinging modern jazz with an emphasis on bop, hard bop and mainstream (as well as various musical surprises, of course). We play a selection of standard tunes, as well as my compositions.

Various incarnations of the David Skinner swing trio are backing the guest artists at the Scandinavian Shuffle Balboa dance event in Oslo, january 2012. This is a different style and approach. A page about my bands for swing dancers is coming soon.

I sometimes feature guest soloists with the trio, and in 2012 I'll be doing some gigs with saxophonist Dave Edge.

Dave Edge

Dave and I met each other in the north of England in the early 00's. We played some gigs together in Liverpool and Manchester, when even the drummer had the first name Dave. Dave Edge moved to Norway shortly after I did, and he's now the regular sax player for the well-known Norwegian soul jazz organ combo "The Real Thing". Dave has performed with Kenny Wheeler, John Surman,Iain Ballamy, Lew Solloff and Georgie Fame and played baritone saxophone with "Sharp 9". Dave was active on the North west Uk jazz scene from 1992 to 2006 as well as teaching saxophone at L.I.P.A ( the Paul McCartney School).

Audun Ellingsen

On bass I've got Audun Ellingsen. He's an old friend and a great player, and we've worked together in the group Sphinx since 1999. He runs his own group, Audun Automat, and also plays with Frøy Aagre and various other well-known names.
